"European Development Days" (EDD) has been one of the European Union’s leading forums on development cooperation since 2006. EDD 2018 was organised by the European Commission on June 5th and 6th, 2018 in Brussels. It brought together representatives from the international development community to share ideas and experience in ways that can inspire new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.
SMART Myanmar was pleased to be invited to present two project labs under the SWITCH Program - “Empowering women in the garment industry in Myanmar via Apps and Sunday Cafes” and “Empowering women in private sector development to promote sustainable lifestyles and an inclusive green economy”.
During the project lab “Empowering women in the garment industry in Myanmar via Apps and Sunday Cafes”, SMART Myanmar' project manager, Su Mon Thair, introduced SMART's educational phone apps “Shwe Job” and “SatYone Superstar” and explained how these apps are supportive for garment workers, teaching them occupational safety and health and about Myanmar's labour laws.
SMART was also pleased to present on the development of the Sunday Café II, the women's community center implemented by SMART in cooperation with Thone Pan Hla. Su Mon explained how support from the EU has been beneficial for garment workers in Myanmar, allowing the project to develop apps and community centers which have reached over 10,000 workers to-date.
Possibilities to transfer experience to other women entrepreneurs were discussed during the project lab “Empowering women in the private sector development to promote sustainable lifestyles and an inclusive green economy”
