A Study Mission in Germany funded by the European Union under SWITCH-Asia’s SMART Myanmar Project, will be held on March 23-29, 2014 to be participated in by twelve (12) delegates from the government ministries, business support organizations and financial institutions.
The overall objective of the Study Mission is to familiarize the delegates with best practice examples of German associations, ministries and financial institutions on the promotion of social responsibility and environmental sustainability for possible replication in Myanmar.
The ADFIAP Consulting (AC) Group of the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP), a partner in the SMART Myanmar Project, conducted an orientation program for the delegates on February 20-21, 2014 at the UMFCCI Building in Yangon, Myanmar.
The delegates were given an overview of sustainable consumption and production (SCP) principles and practices and the business case for SCP based on the SMART Cebu experience. SMART Myanmar is a replication of the successfully completed SMART Cebu project in the Philippines where ADFIAP was also a partner and delegate in its Study Mission to Germany. AC also gave the delegates a walk-thru of the Study Mission Program of Activities and presented an overview of each of the institutions to be visited.
The SMART Myanmar Project http://www.smartmyanmar.org/ aims to prepare Myanmar SMEs in the garment sector to produce sustainable products that meet the European environmental standards thereby making the SMEs more competitive particularly in the European and Asian markets.
