sequa gGmbH of Germany, the lead organization in a consortium of EU and Asian partners implementing the project called “SMEs for Environmental Accountability, Responsibility and Transparency Myanmar” or SMART Myanmar, organized a pre-project launch mission to Yangon from January 9-11, 2013 to meet and consult with partners in Myanmar, prepare the project’s work plan and visit garment factories which are the beneficiaries of the project. Representatives of the consortium partners aside from sequa who participated in the mission included UK’s Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Germany’s Gesamtverband (Confederation of the German Textile and Fashion Industry), the Manila-based Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia & the Pacific (ADFIAP),the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce in Myanmar Business (UMFCCI) and the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA). The 3-year project, funded by a grant from the European Commission under its SWITCH-Asia Programme, specifically aims to improve the production and consumption of sustainably-manufactured garments from Myanmar.
Pre-Kickoff SMART Myanmar project mission organized by sequa
