The SMART Myanmar team has followed the invitation of the German Asia-Pacific Business Association (OAV) to introduce the SMART Myanmar project to a German business delegation in mid November 2013. The delegation composed of business people dealing with textile machines and garment technology, who visited Myanmar in order to explore the market and future business opportunities. The project’s objective to increase sustainable production in Myanmar grasped the audience attention.
While explaining about the current state of the garment sector in the country, many questions on opportunities and threats in this growing market were raised. SMART Myanmar elaborated on how the project can potentially cooperate and join efforts with the private sector. Relevant project activities, such as the involvement in a industry-wide Code of Conduct and development of export strategy for best practice companies, were discussed. DeveloPPP, a program financed by the German Ministry of economic cooperation and development, was introduced as being a tool to support the private sector in implementing the development of relevant projects. With this, ideas have been exchanged and new business contacts have been obtained.
