From August 27th to September 1st SMART Myanmar was pleased to welcome back senior technical experts from the consultancy firm SUSTENT Ltd., from India, to conduct further "training of trainers" with SMART's local electrical and mechanical engineers on boiler and steam system assessments. Together, the SMART organized three days of classroom training for the project's engineers and 4 days of on-site assessments at 4 different garment factories.
All 4 factories participating in the assessment use wood-fired boilers varying in capacity from 0.5 tons per hour to 1.5 tons per hour. Of the four factories, two have new boiler systems and two have older boiler and steam systems. All four factories have good potential to reduce fuel use by an excess of 10%-20% per month. SMART Myanmar's energy efficiency team is currently preparing site visit reports for the companies and will be conducting further follow-up visits during September.
